Week 8: Feb 20 - Feb 26, 2011

So.  I have decided that leaving your desk unattended for 11 days has some definate downsides.  One - piles become very large.  Two - 11 days worth of work squeezed into 5 makes for some interesting moments upon your return.  Three - it just really stinks that the work fairies apparently took off the same days I did.    *sigh*
Enjoyed my time away though.  Week 8 was still supposed to be a winter theme.  Feb 20 - 23 I was still south of the snow line and so the handful (litereally barely picked up my camera on the drive home) of shots that I took before diving into catch-up mode at work didn't give me much to choose from for a blog-a-ble photo.
I took this shot while sitting in the WalMart parking lot waiting for my mother to pick up her script.  I'd been feeding Cheerios to a group of "wild" Muscovey ducks living in a pond next to the parking lot.  Within seconds of the toss of my first handful to the ducks, the sky was full of gulls.  I captured this fellow as he hovered over my head just waiting for me to give in and toss up a few pieces.

I recently joined the forum for The New York Institute of Photography - and in reading many of the topics available to the photography enthusiast, I stumbled across a fellow student (Dee) that was issuing herself a challenge:  to take at least one photograph a week and submit it to her forum friends for review.  Sounds easy right?  Not so much.  First off, many of us taking the class are living in two worlds.  The world of families and work; deadlines and diapers (or barn chores, as is my case).  There are times when it is just not feasible to pick up a camera, or finish a lesson.  There there is the Photography.  The passion to capture this world that moves by us, faster by the day, and share it with others.
So - we challenge ourselves - and others - to make it happen.
